Dr. Pavlou — Approach and Philosophy
The psychotherapy process is deeply personal, unique to each individual. I help people to understand their particular styles, unique as thumbprints, for navigating their lives. This becomes a “map” for desired change, and is specific to each client. People grow in a variety of ways, and so the journey that is therapy is determined by factors that facilitate personal movement. I listen for ways in which people have made things work before, and use this understanding to formulate ideas about how these may be expanded , enhanced, or rediscovered. I work with the client to identify, amplify, or restore the positive ways in which he or she negotiates a life path. For some people this work is very focused and short term, for others more broad ranging and longer. Some people utilize practical, behavioral , and cognitive behavioral methods, and are concrete and goal directed. Other people work better with a thoughtful process organized around insight and feelings. Most frequently, the work is an amalgam of many things that may include
- Psychodynamic psychotherapy.
- Stress management, relaxation training.
- Cognitive-behavioral techniques.
- Integration of religious practice and psychotherapy, including meditation practice.
